His names tells us what kind of creature he is: "Inu" = dog and "Yasha" - demon in the Buddhist religion, but without the evil denotation; so the translation becomes "Demon Dog". And Inukun is a half demon, proud, irrational, and is difficult to reason with. (The only one who can calm him down is Kagome with the Osuwari (sit) command. By the way...he is a dog... :P ) He is searching for the Shikon no Tama (Sacred Jewel of the Four Souls) that he originally wants to use to become a full youkai (demon). His supernatural powers include: an incredible sense of hearing, sharp fangs and claws, and is very strong. However, every new moon, or every once a month, Inuyasha is rendered powerless and he becomes a normal human for an entire night. His primary weapon is the Tessaiga (Tetsusaiga) a sword that can use an enemy's own energy against them. Inuyasha's sword has three attacks. "Kaze no Kizu" (Wind Scar;Wound of The Wind) will send an enemy's own energy back at them. It has the power to kill 100 demons. "Bakuryuuha" (Backlash Wave) is a stronger version of the "Kaze no Kizu". It will send a blast of energy back at the enemy along with the combined power of the Tessaiga. Finally, the Tessaiga can use "Kongosouha" (Diamond Attack) where the Tessaiga fires hundreds of exploding crystals into an enemy. Inuyasha rarely fights with his claws, but when he does he uses two attack "Hijin Tessou" and "Sankon Tessou". They mean "Blades of Blood" and "Iron Reaver Soul Stealer." In the first episode of Inuyasha, he was freed by Kagome from a spell that his at-one-time love interest Kikyo has cast on him.
Kagome Higurashi
Higurashi means to live day by day, and this is the name of a shintoist temple where Kagome, a sixteen years old student of Tokyo, lives with her mother, grandfather and her brother. From too time she was not intersted on the legend of demon and devil that the granpa told her, but she starts to believe in that story when, after she entered in the well of the temple, she arrived in the "Sengoku ages". There she has known Inuyasha and, after she has freed him by the spell, she understood that she is the Kikyo’s reincarnation, and so she has become the guardian of Shikon no tama. She has got a lot of power, gained thanks to her past, like the capacity to find the shards of the Shikon no tama even if they are hiden, she can purify the shards of the sphere, and the ability in use the long bow (even if at the begin she hasn’t got that ability…^_^ ),she will go with Inu yasha to help him in the searching for the Shikon no tama, destroyed after a long battle between the hanyou and a demon. But this is only the begin of her story. She loves Inuyasha but he is still bind by his old girlfriend Kikyo, that he killed 50 years before.
Sango
Her name means coral. Her first apparition is with the brother and the father (all Youkai hunters), in their land: the land where the Shikon no Tama was born. Like the monk Miroku, she was caught in a snare created by Naraku. When she and the other principal Youkai hunters were in mission, Naraku and some other demons destroyed their village, Naraku also gave the blame of the assault to Inuyasha. In the mean time, he took the control of the mind of Kohaku, Sango’s brother, that killed all the Youkai hunters and also his father. She is the only survivor of the Naraku’s snare and she fought against Inuyasha, thinking that he is the guilty of the destruction of her village, but she will be saved by the ghost dog that understood the snare of Naraku, so Sango is following him to revenge her family. With the girl, also a dog (cat?) joined the group. Kirara is a cute and beatiful…husky? Wolf…bah…i don’t know ^_^, that can became a great…wolf? So big that Sango can ride it. It is also a great fighter. Sango has got a lot of weapon: swords, poisons, but the main weapon is the great boomerang on her back Hiraikotsu.
Miroku
The ideogram means Maitreya. In the Buddhist religion is the Messiah that will come back on the Earth. The character with this name is a Buddhist monk that, at the begining wanted to steal the Shikon no Tama, but he began an important friend of Inuyasha and Kagome and now he is helping them to find the other shards. He have inherited a curse by his grandfather made by Naraku dressed up like woman: the Kazaana = "wind’s tunnel", a tornado that sucks in everything on his range. To stop this curse, he must use a napkin and a rosary. But the real problem is another. If Miroku wont kill Naraku as soon as possible, the hole will suck himself, killing him. The father and his grandfather died in this way. The first impression about Miroku is…that he is a pervert :D he loves the pretty girls and so he becomes the hit of Sango when trains with her Hiraikotsu. After all…she loves him…and he too…but they are too stupid to notice it.
Shippo
His name means seven treasures: gold, silver, crystal, pearl, coral, agate and lapis-lazuli. He knew Inuyasha and Kagome, while he was trying to steale the Shikon no Tama, to revenge his father, killed by the lightning brothers: Hiten and Manten. They killed the father of the little Shippo to steal him some shards of the sphere. The little fox demon, to revenge his parent, wanna steal some shards to Kagome, to kill the brothers. Inuyasha save him and Kagome, that was kidnapping and also helped the young fox demon in his revenge. After all, the puppy joined the group. He becomes a great friend of Kagome, but he quarrels too many times with Inuyasha…but he is more cunning that the ghost dog ^_^. He has great ability in illusion andcan also transform himself in what he wants, keeping his strenght. By the way…he is a puppy.
